Softball Preview: Rosepine Eagles vs. Iota Bulldogs
The Rosepine Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Iota Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
Friday just wasn't the day for Rosepine's offense. They lost 14-0 to Live Oak on Friday. Rosepine's loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Iota waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Greyhounds as they made off with a 12-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Saige Cherry tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ainsley Manuel and Chloe Darbonne did most of the damage at the plate: Manuel went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Darbonne scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Darbonne has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Haydyn Schexnayder, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Iota was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Iota's record now sits at 21-3. As for Rosepine, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.
