Baseball Recap: Monroe Find Success

Monroe's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Clinton Cougars by a score of 8-5. For the Cheesemakers, this counts as revenge for the 8-6 win the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Owen Hicks made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Hicks was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marcus Ott, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cole Meighan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Monroe's record now sits at 9-5. As for Clinton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe will host Dodgeville at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Dodgers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Cheesemakers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Clinton, they will be playing at home against Brodhead/Juda at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
