Basketball Recap: Wootton Patriots vs. Quince Orchard Cougars
The Wootton Patriots entered their tilt with the Quince Orchard Cougars with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Wootton sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 68-65 win over the Cougars on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Wootton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaiden Aze, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Aze continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Khairi Hyde was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Wootton is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Quince Orchard, they dropped their record down to 6-6 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Wootton will challenge the Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Churchill knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully the Patriots like a good challenge. As for Quince Orchard, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Trojans. Gaithersburg is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
