Preview: Edison Eagles vs. Sapulpa Chieftains
Edison has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Sapulpa Chieftains at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Edison will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 321st, while Sapulpa is ranked 16th).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 59-24, which was the final score in Edison's tilt against Coweta on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Edison in their matchups with Coweta: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, Sapulpa waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. Everything went their way against Memorial as Sapulpa made off with a 56-30 win. Sapulpa has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.
Riki Mcquarters and Tyla Heard were among the main playmakers for Sapulpa as the former almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Heard has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kailynne Disaya Parker, who scored five points along with two steals.
Edison's defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-18. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.2 points per game. As for Sapulpa, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Edison took a serious blow against Sapulpa in their previous meeting back in January, falling 70-9. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sapulpa's Kianna Littlebear, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Now that Edison knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
