Football Recap: Weston Veater and Patrick Woody Lead the Defense for Lumpkin County Win

Lumpkin County won the last time they faced White County and Nolan Matthews did his part to make sure it happened again. The Indians really took it to the Warriors for the full four quarters, racking up a 45-14 victory with plenty of help from Matthews, who rushed for 277 yards and five scores while picking up 12.6 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Lumpkin County's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Weston Veater and Patrick Woody, who racked up four sacks between them. Veater also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine.

The win made it two in a row for Lumpkin County and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 23 points in those games. As for White County, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-6.

Lumpkin County and White County will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Indians see the field they'll take on Johnson at 7:30 p.m. on October 10. As for White County, their break will end when they face Dawson County at 7:30 p.m. on October 10.
