Baseball Game Preview: Stone Tomcats vs. Vancleave Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Stone will face off against Vancleave. The Tomcats will head out to take on the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Stone will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Tuesday, Stone needed a bit of extra time to put away Vancleave. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tomcats have posted since March 7th.

Braxton Jones made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Stone is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-12 otherwise. Jones was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Jones wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Scott, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most hits Scott has posted since back in February.

Stone pushed their record up to 10-13 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Vancleave, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-5.
