Basketball Recap: Jaycee Carlson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mountain View over Payson

After flying high against Orem last Tuesday, Mountain View came back down to earth. The Mountain View Bruins fell 56-49 to the Payson Lions on Friday. The Bruins have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaycee Carlson, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Carlson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amelia Suguturaga, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

Payson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Roundy led the charge by going 5 for 10 en route to 18 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Emmy Hales was another key player, going 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points and three blocks.

Mountain View's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-5. As for Payson, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Mountain View didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 51-49 loss against Provo on the 21st. As for Payson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-23 win against Uintah on the 21st.
