Western Boone dropped down to 4-3 on Friday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Southmont Mounties by a score of 26-23. The Stars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mounties apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
Several Stars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacob Smith, who rushed for 92 yards and one TD.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Malaki Christy, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
As for Southmont, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 39.1 points this season.
Southmont had a senior duo take command as Heath Tolliver rushed for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Avery Stadler rushed for 154 yards. Stadler's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 104 rushing yards.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Western Boone will square off against rival North Putnam at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Southmont is set to face off against their familiar foe Cascade at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Mounties 11.1, the Cadets 11.3) so any points scored will be well earned.
