Baseball Game Preview: Homestead Spartans vs. Cathedral Fighting Irish

The Homestead Spartans will challenge the Cathedral Fighting Irish at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Homestead is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Homestead barely beat Bellmont the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans blew past the Braves 8-1 on Thursday. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Braylon Sheefel looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luke Neiswonger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Cole Kintz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Cathedral fell victim to Westfield and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shamrocks. The Fighting Irish have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Homestead pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Cathedral, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
