Softball Recap: Fern Creek Extends Winning Streak to Six

Fern Creek waltzed into their match on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They beat the Whitefield Academy Wildcats by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 16-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-3 on Thursday.

Charlotte Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Brown was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Lakelyn Maloney was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aniya Villa, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Fern Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .630. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Fern Creek pushed their record up to 13-12 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Whitefield Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fern Creek will venture away from home to challenge Fairdale at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
