Basketball Recap: Maryville Comes Up Short

Maryville lost against Chillicothe back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Maryville Spoofhounds lost 59-33 to the Chillicothe Hornets. The Spoofhounds were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-16.

Chillicothe was led to victory by Liz Oliver and Lyla Beetsma. Oliver went 6-for-15 en route to 17 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists, while Beetsma shot 73% from the field to rack up 20 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Oliver a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexy Smith, who posted ten points.

Maryville has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. Chillicothe's win was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-6.

Maryville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chillicothe, they will host Cameron at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chillicothe is facing Cameron at the right time seeing as Cameron is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
