The Mary G. Montgomery Vikings will take on the Bryant Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mary G. Montgomery took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Spanish Fort with a sharp 8-2 victory.
Malena Simonson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Gracie Coleman and Ava Gradick did most of the damage at the plate: Coleman scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Gradick scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most hits Coleman has posted since back in February. Hannah Fenner was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Bryant had to endure a ten-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Saraland on Tuesday.
Madelyn Ladnier made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Haley Anderson was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Breighlyn Hasting, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Bryant picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-11. As for Mary G. Montgomery, their win bumped their record up to 3-10.
Mary G. Montgomery beat Bryant 3-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Mary G. Montgomery repeat their success, or does Bryant has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
