Basketball Game Preview: Jones Eagles vs. Whitney Young Dolphins

Jones is 0-10 against Whitney Young since January of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Jones Eagles will take on the Whitney Young Dolphins at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Jones turned things around against King on Saturday. They secured a 51-45 W over the Jaguars.

Meanwhile, Whitney Young entered their tilt with Butler on Saturday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 50-43 win over the Lynx. Given the Dolphins' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Lynx are ranked 135th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitney Young has also been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Jones, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-13.

Jones took a serious blow against Whitney Young in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 89-32. Thankfully for Jones, Skylar Jones (who almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
