Baseball Recap: Hialeah-Miami Lakes Drops Highest Score of Season Against Westland Hialeah

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hialeah-Miami Lakes). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Westland Hialeah Wildcats a 17-0 shutout on Monday. The Trojans have beaten the Wildcats the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.

Jayden Chapman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hialeah-Miami Lakes is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. Chapman was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Jose Lopez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Diorge Bernal, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Hialeah-Miami Lakes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .682. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Hialeah-Miami Lakes' victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-7. As for Westland Hialeah, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hialeah-Miami Lakes will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Keys Gate at 3:30 p.m. on April 2nd.
