Softball Recap: Notre Dame Prep Comes Up Short

Notre Dame Prep dropped their record down to 6-6 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Norwalk Bears by a score of 3-1. Surprisingly, this marked the Lancers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

As for Norwalk, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

For Norwalk's part, Maddie Collins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. Collins has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Norwalk secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Zoey Wilds, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Notre Dame Prep has already played their next game (against Newtown), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Norwalk, they will take on Trumbull at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bears 2.5, the Eagles 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
