Recap: Evangel Christian Lightning vs. Ezekiel Academy Knights
The Evangel Christian Lightning lost against the Ezekiel Academy Knights back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Evangel Christian took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ezekiel Academy. Evangel Christian has struggled against Ezekiel Academy recently, as their contest on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Hannah Benson and Rachel Cassimiro certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Benson scored 11 points, while Cassimiro scored 9 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Bullock, who scored 6 points.
Ezekiel Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Addi Newell out in front who scored 19 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Newell has scored at least 25% of Ezekiel Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Abbie Dunlap, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Evangel Christian has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Ezekiel Academy, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evangel Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Banks Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th. As for Ezekiel Academy, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Southern Christian at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th.
