Baseball Recap: Poplarville Comes Up Short

If Poplarville was feeling good fresh off their 11-2 takedown of Pass Christian last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Poplarville fell 4-1 to Pass Christian on Friday. Hornets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Pirates since on Friday.

Poplarville got a good showing from Luke Sones, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Sones a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Brock Sheppard made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

Poplarville has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. Pass Christian pushed their record up to 7-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

While Poplarville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
