Moses Brown and East Providence are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Quakers will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Townies at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Moses Brown's win against Ponaganset wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Quakers had just enough and edged out the Chieftains 14-13 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Quakers in their matchups with the Chieftains: they've now won three in a row.
The team relied heavily on Abby DeWolf, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Coco Medeiros, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Moses Brown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They got five more hits than Ponaganset's also-impressive total of 11.
Meanwhile, East Providence faced St. Mary Academy-Bay View in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Townies put the hurt on the Bengals with a sharp 19-9 win. With that victory, the Townies brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
Ella Grimley was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. Audrey Bernard was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Moses Brown's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for East Providence, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
East Providence's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Moses Brown has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. It's a different story for East Providence, though, as they've been averaging 10.7 hits. Given Moses Brown's sizable advantage in that area, the Townies will need to find a way to close that gap.
