Baseball Game Preview: Cheverus Stags vs. Bonny Eagle Scots

The Cheverus Stags will challenge the Bonny Eagle Scots at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cheverus 3.1, Bonny Eagle 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Last Wednesday, Cheverus didn't have quite enough to beat South Portland and fell 2-1. The Stags haven't had much luck with the Red Riots recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Ben Dumais was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.

At the plate, Cheverus saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Daigle, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Bonny Eagle was able to grind out a solid win over Noble on Tuesday, taking the game 7-2. The victory continues a trend for the Scots in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.

Caleb Racicot made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 6.2 innings pitched. Racicot was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Humphrey, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Cheverus' defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Bonny Eagle, their win bumped their record up to 11-7-1.
