Basketball Recap: Canby Falls Despite Big Games from Dylan Nelson and Jaxon Lawson

Canby lost against Wilsonville back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Canby Cougars fell 68-57 to the Wilsonville Wildcats. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Jaxon Lawson and Dylan Nelson certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Lawson posted 13 points along with six boards and four steals, while Nelson went 6 of 10 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. Lawson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Taggart, who went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points.

Canby's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Wilsonville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season.

Canby has already played their next match, a 73-31 victory against Hillsboro on the 28th. As for Wilsonville, they will host La Salle at 7:15 p.m. on January 31st.
