Softball Recap: Jefferson Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

Jefferson had won five straight on the road, but on Friday they bumped their record up to 16-3 to make it six. They skirted past the Brodhead Cardinals 2-1. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

Hildie Dempsey made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bre Mengel was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

As for Brodhead, they moved to 12-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Brodhead's side, Ava Risum spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson will take on Delavan-Darien at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Brodhead, they will challenge Big Foot at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chiefs will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight.
