Northwest Crossroads Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Marco Castro Dazzles in Kankakee Valley Win

Kankakee Valley's five-game losing streak is now nothing but a memory thanks in part to Marco Castro. Castro was unstoppable on Friday, rushing for 213 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 32 receiving yards. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 105 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Castro might have his next game, a home matchup with Munster, circled on his calendar. When Castro last faced the Mustangs back in October of 2023, he rushed for 320 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per carry.

Willy Shearer Delivers Electric Effort Vs Hammond Morton

While Willy Shearer delivered a dominant performance on Friday, a win just wasn't in the cards for Hobart. Hammond Morton had no answer to Shearer as he rushed for 79 yards and three touchdowns. Shearer is becoming a predictor of Hobart's success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

Hammond Morton had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Shearer it was a similar story. Shearer rushed for 230 yards and five touchdowns the last time he and the Governors duked it out back in October of 2023.

Kalwinski Made His Presence Known in Lowell's 36-19 Victory

Lowell found a leader in Brody Kalwinski as the team took down Munster on Friday. Kalwinski did his part (and then some), rushing for 43 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 123 yards and a touchdown on only seven passes for the 'W'.

Munster had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Kalwinski it was a similar story. When Kalwinski last faced the Mustangs back in October of 2023, he rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Diego Arroyo Delivers Best Performance of Season

Diego Arroyo produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Kankakee Valley to the win on Friday. Arroyo rushed for 22 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 127 yards and a touchdown on only ten passes.

Highland's probably not too fond of Arroyo given he always seems to get the better of them. Arroyo threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes the last time he and the Trojans duked it out back in October of 2023.

Colton Scott Turns in Season-Best Effort

On Friday, Lowell got the W thanks in part to Colton Scott playing the best football he has all season. Scott rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 56 yards.

Scott must have Munster's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Scott saw the Mustangs), he rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
