Baseball Recap: Cheyenne Mountain Takes Down Pueblo Central in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Cheyenne Mountain had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pueblo Central Wildcats, sneaking past 17-16. That's more bragging rights for the Red-Tailed Hawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Nate Glad was a standout: he went 3-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Cheyenne Mountain: the team is 11-0-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colton Johnson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cheyenne Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

The win (which was Cheyenne Mountain's third in a row) raised their record to 15-7-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Pueblo Central, they dropped their record down to 12-11-1 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Cheyenne Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 18-4 victory against Green Mountain on the 17th. Pueblo Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
