Basketball Recap: Jackson Rumford's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Scott over Hugoton

Scott has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-56 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hugoton Eagles. The Beavers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 57-40.

Scott lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jackson Rumford, who went 9 of 16 en route to 22 points along with eight boards and five assists. Eloy Ruelas was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to eight assists and three steals.

Scott's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Hugoton, they moved to 5-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scott will face off against Ulysses on Friday. Scott is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season. As for Hugoton, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Hugoton Eagles take on the Cimarron Bluejays at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
