Softball Recap: Goshen RedHawks vs. Plymouth Pilgrims/Rockies
Goshen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They fell 5-2 to the Plymouth Pilgrims/Rockies. Goshen was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Plymouth apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.
Emily Ramirez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Goshen saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evyn Weldy, who went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
Even though they lost, Goshen hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plymouth struck out six times.
On Plymouth's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kayla Johnson gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits.
On the hitting side, Haylee Busse was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Goshen's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Plymouth, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-5.
Goshen will head out on the road to square off against Concord at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Plymouth, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Wawasee at 5:30 p.m. Wawasee is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
