Football Recap: Justin Garza Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Justin Garza had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They managed an 18-12 win over the Mesa Verde Mavericks.

Samir Mohammed was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 160 yards and one touchdown while picking up 10.0 yards per carry.

Mohammed was just one part of a punishing run game: Justin Garza was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 201 rushing yards in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Although Mesa Verde took the loss, they still got scores from Cesar Granados and D'Mani Block.

Coming up, Justin Garza will take on Mt. Whitney at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mesa Verde, they will square off against Cordova at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
