Preview: Caney Creek Panthers vs. The Woodlands Highlanders
Caney Creek is 0-1 against The Woodlands since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Caney Creek Panthers will be playing at home against The Woodlands Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. Caney Creek will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 595th, while The Woodlands is ranked 51st).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 63-9, which was the final score in Caney Creek's tilt against Willis on Friday. Caney Creek was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-0.
Meanwhile, The Woodlands had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat College Park 49-0 at home. The result was nothing new for The Woodlands, who have now won five contests by 29 points or more so far this season.
Among those leading the charge was Mabrey Mettauer, who threw for 246 yards and four touchdowns while completing 86.7% of his passes. Mettauer is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick Rabel, who picked up 74 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Woodlands' win bumped their season record to 6-2 while Caney Creek's defeat dropped theirs to 3-4.
