Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Colton Marks and Matthew Armstrong Lead South Newton to Victory

South Newton proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 53) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Attica Red Ramblers 55-52. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Red Ramblers: they've now won six in a row.

South Newton was led to victory by Matthew Armstrong and Colton Marks. Armstrong dropped a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Marks shot 60% from the field en route to 23 points along with six assists and five steals. The match was Armstrong's third in a row with at least 24 points.

Despite the defeat, Attica saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caiden Ashley went 8-for-17 to rack up 22 points and three steals. Ronnie Matthews was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

South Newton's win bumped their record up to 6-16. As for Attica, they dropped their record down to 4-16 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, South Newton will square off against West Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Central will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something South Newton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Attica, they have already played their next contest, a 51-47 defeat against Medora on the 1st.
