Softball Recap: Gardena Comes Up Short

Gardena extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-9 in the process. They came up short against the Carson Colts, falling 26-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 29-0 back in April.

As for Carson, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 18-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Carson's part, Isabella Campos looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Campos has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kayleigh Allen, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and five runs. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Atiana Rodriguez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Gardena is taking a road trip to take on San Pedro at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Carson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Narbonne at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Colts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gauchos have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
