Jacob Hensley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Harris, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season. Another player making a difference was Peyton Knox, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Port St. Joe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, Wakulla Christian School got the win against Crossroad Academy on Monday by a conclusive 18-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Saints.
Johnathan Hart made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Hart was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Wakulla Christian School: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Wakulla Christian School got a big performance out of Jackson Lawhon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Lawhon is becoming a predictor of Wakulla Christian School's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Andrews, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Wakulla Christian School pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15.2 runs. As for Port St. Joe, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Port St. Joe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wakulla Christian School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Port St. Joe was able to grind out a solid win over Wakulla Christian School in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, winning 4-1. Does Port St. Joe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wakulla Christian School turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
