Recap: Buena Vista Bison vs. Omaha Northwest Huskies

This season hasn't been kind to the Buena Vista Bison, who are still winless after their 12th matchup. The matchup between Buena Vista and Omaha Northwest wasn't particularly close, with Buena Vista falling 58-42. Buena Vista lost against Omaha Northwest in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 69-18 score last time.

Buena Vista lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Eli Smith, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Smith grabbed two or more steals. Mogtaba Mohamed was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with two steals.

Buena Vista struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-4) when they just don't pass the ball.

Omaha Northwest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Vaughns, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Vaughns pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dontae McDowell, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.

Buena Vista's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-12. As for Omaha Northwest, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buena Vista won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Creighton Prep at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th. Creighton Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Buena Vista likes a good challenge. Omaha Northwest won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Burke at 2:45 p.m. on January 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Burke is ranked 232nd, while Omaha Northwest is ranked 227th).
