Softball Recap: Odem's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Odem can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Taft Greyhounds 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Owls have posted since April 15, 2025.

Sophia Gutierrez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Julia Garza, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Isabella Huerta, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Odem kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 11-19. As for Taft, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-15.
