Softball Recap: Eau Claire Memorial Comes Up Short

Eau Claire Memorial had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 6-17 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Onalaska Hilltoppers by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hilltoppers this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-4 defeat last Friday.

Mackenna Dohms spent all 9.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Eau Claire Memorial saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kieva Shilha, who went 1-for-5 with one RBI.

As for Onalaska, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Onalaska's side, Sydney Kraus made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 16 over ten innings pitched. Kraus was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cayenne Zinnecker was incredible, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

As of now, neither Eau Claire Memorial nor Onalaska have any future games scheduled.
