Preview: Spoto Spartans vs. Gateway Panthers
The Spoto Spartans will take on the Gateway Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Spoto walked away with it. They blew past the Tigers, posting a 68-39 victory at home. Spoto has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 contests by 20 points or more this season.
Spoto can attribute much of their success to Dominique Boone, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Jayla Griffin, who scored 23 points along with six assists and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Griffin has scored at least a third of Spoto's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Suri Thomas, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Gateway had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They came out on top against Lake Wales by a score of 37-25.
Spoto's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-9. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Gateway, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
