Baseball Game Preview: Classical Purple vs. Tolman Tigers

The Classical Purple are taking a road trip to square off against the Tolman Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Classical is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

On Saturday, Classical came up short against Scituate and fell 5-1.

Classical saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allen Espinal, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Espinal has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played.

Meanwhile, Tolman faced Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Knights. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Tolman has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Classical, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.

Classical was able to grind out a solid win over Tolman in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 4-1. Will the Purple repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
