Basketball Game Preview: Calhoun Yellow Jackets vs. Jenkins Warriors

Two dominant guards in Trace Hawkins and Dominique Johnson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Calhoun Yellow Jackets will welcome the Jenkins Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Calhoun is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games.

Last Saturday, Calhoun beat Adairsville 61-48.

Calhoun's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hawkins, who went 7-for-17 en route to 16 points along with six boards and four steals. That's the most rebounds Hawkins has posted since back in January. Blake Hammett was another key player, going 6-for-11 on his way to 16 points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Jenkins sidestepped Beach for a 47-45 win.

Calhoun's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24.9 points. As for Jenkins, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 14-12 record this season.

Calhoun didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Jenkins in their previous meeting back in March of 2017, but they still walked away with a 65-60 win. Will Calhoun repeat their success, or does Jenkins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
