Football Game Preview: Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders vs. Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks + Official Tickets

Monroe-Woodbury has won three straight games at home, while Newburgh Free Academy has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Crusaders will host the Goldbacks at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Monroe-Woodbury's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They really took it to Washingtonville for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-0 win. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Wizards are ranked 156th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Monroe-Woodbury got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was ETHAN MALDONADO out in front who threw for 103 yards and three TDs on only six passes. MALDONADO has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. FRANCISCO FELIZ was another key player, rushing for 38 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Monroe-Woodbury was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Newburgh Free Academy over Pine Bush in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Goldbacks blew the Bushmen out of the water with a 56-6 final score. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 33-0.

Monroe-Woodbury's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Newburgh Free Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Monroe-Woodbury strolled past Newburgh Free Academy when the teams last played back in September of 2024 by a score of 27-13. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Goldbacks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
