Baseball Recap: Falmouth Extends Winning Streak to Six

Falmouth had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They put the hurt on the Massabesic Mustangs with a sharp 11-2 win. The Navigators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

Tyler Simmons made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Josh Polchies was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacoby Porter, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Falmouth pushed their record up to 10-4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Massabesic, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8-1.

The future could be bright for both Falmouth and Massabesic: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Navigators will look to extend Deering's five-game losing streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Massabesic will try to hand Westbrook their 11th-straight defeat when the two meet at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
