Basketball Recap: Kardiay Tyler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Barberton over Olentangy

Barberton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Sunday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Olentangy Braves. While losing is never fun, the Magics can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Braves are ranked 139th).

Barberton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kardiay Tyler, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 12 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds. Tyler is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Joey Ondo, who posted 12 points along with six assists and six boards.

Olentangy found their leader in sophomore Ty Walburn, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Walburn a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Agrawal, who scored 12 points.

Barberton's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Olentangy, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-7 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Barberton will take on Tallmadge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Barberton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season. Olentangy has already played their next game (against Hilliard Darby), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
