Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop Hannan Hawks vs. Newman Greenies

Archbishop Hannan and Newman are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. Archbishop Hannan will head out on the road to challenge Newman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newman took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Archbishop Hannan, who comes in off a win.

Archbishop Hannan took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Loranger.

The team relied heavily on Jay Lachney, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Newman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Slidell.

Archbishop Hannan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Newman's loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Archbishop Hannan took their win against Newman in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Archbishop Hannan since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
