After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Spearville, Ellis was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Minneola Wildcats 17-1. While the Railroaders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Ben Byers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Byers was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Toby Honas was a standout: he went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chason Fabrizius, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Ellis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Minneola only posted an OBP of .250.

Ellis' win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-2. As for Minneola, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Ellis beat the Wildcats by a score of 20-0 later that day.
