Softball Game Preview: Larue County Hawks vs. Russell County Lakers

The Larue County Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Russell County Lakers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Larue County is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Larue County came out on top against Hart County on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Hawks blew past the Raiders 6-0. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Heidi Tipton, who gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks to keep Hart County off the board. Tipton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Molly Abbott, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Laura Austin, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Russell County and Marion County finished up their contest with a 0-0 tie on Monday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Lakers were not able to get on the board.

Larue County pushed their record up to 23-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. Russell County's draw makes their record 13-13-1 this season.

Larue County skirted past Russell County 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
