Softball Game Preview: Williamsburg Academy Stallions vs. Dorchester Academy Raiders

The Williamsburg Academy Stallions will take on the Dorchester Academy Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Williamsburg Academy took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They blew past Dillon Christian 11-1. Williamsburg Academy's win was all the more impressive since the Warriors were averaging only 2.88 runs allowed on the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dorchester Academy). They were the clear victors by a 23-7 margin over St. John's Christian Academy on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.

Emery McClure was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McClure was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Lily Canady was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Alyssa Grooms was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

Williamsburg Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Dorchester Academy, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Williamsburg Academy beat Dorchester Academy 4-1 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Stallions repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
