Football Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

After flying high against Ludlow last Friday, Newport came back down to earth. The Wildcats took a blow against the Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts on Friday, falling 46-6. The Wildcats have struggled against the Juggernauts recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Even if they lost, Newport's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Sean Hurry and Amari Isham, who racked up 4.5 sacks between them. Hurry is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last six games he's played dating back to last season.

Lloyd Memorial found their leader in sophomore COLTEN BARGER, who picked up 123 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was KALEB EVANS, who threw for 193 yards and three TDs while completing 86.7% of his passes.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Lloyd Memorial, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Newport will face off against Gallatin County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lloyd Memorial, they will square off against Conner at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
