Basketball Game Preview: Burke Bulldogs vs. Lincoln North Star Navigators

Burke is 0-4 against Lincoln North Star since February of 2021 but things could change on Saturday. The Burke Bulldogs will square off against the Lincoln North Star Navigators at 3:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Burke took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Bryan with a sharp 69-49 win. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 53-32 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bears cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, Lincoln North Star faced Millard South in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Thursday. Lincoln North Star skirted past Millard South 59-56. The Navigators haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Lincoln North Star's win came from a few key players Burke will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jordan Castor, who posted ten points in addition to seven assists and four steals. He has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was William Schafer, who shot 55% from the field on his way to 15 points.

Lincoln North Star's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5. As for Burke, their record is now 10-15.

Burke might still be hurting after the 65-42 loss they got from Lincoln North Star in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Burke avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
