Softball Recap: Hillsboro Comes Up Short

Hillsboro fell victim to Auburn and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-0 to the Trojans, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Hiltoppers haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Lainey Lessman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

Hillsboro now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Auburn, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hillsboro will host Taylorville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Auburn, they will take on Pana at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Auburn's pitchers better be ready for this one: Pana has averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
