Softball Game Preview: Mohawk Warriors vs. Monroeville Eagles

The Mohawk Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Monroeville Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last four games Mohawk has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Wednesday, Mohawk didn't have quite enough to beat Wynford and fell 8-7.

Katie Woodland made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Blake Miller, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Monroeville had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Flyers.

Monroeville let Rachel Fries and Taryn Tyler run wild. Fries went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Tyler went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Fries has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Reiber, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Mohawk has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-4 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.67 runs. As for Monroeville, their win bumped their record up to 18-2.

Everything went Mohawk's way against Monroeville when the teams last played back in May of 2022, as Mohawk made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
