Volleyball Recap: Varela Beats Miami Beach for Their Seventh Straight Victory

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Varela had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Miami Beach Hi-Tides. The win was familiar territory for the Vipers, who have now won seven contests in a row.

One reason for the win was Varela's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-16, 25-13.

Varela got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jose Santos out in front who had three digs and three aces. Santos has been hot for a while, having also posted 12 or more assists the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Hidalgo, who had 11 digs and one assist.

They weren't the only good server: Varela was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in seven consecutive matches.

Varela's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-6. As for Miami Beach, they moved to 15-3 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Varela will challenge Mater Lakes Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Vipers surely won't give up without a fight. Miami Beach does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
