Volleyball Recap: Fontbonne Academy Takes a Loss

If Fontbonne Academy was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Malden Catholic on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ducks fell just short of the Notre Dame Academy Cougars by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

Fontbonne Academy wouldn't go down easily and took Notre Dame Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking ten-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 26-28, 23-25, 25-23, 15-5.

Jesseva Taylor paced Fontbonne Academy's offense, picking up 13 kills. Taylor got some help from Tayla Jiang and her 34 assists. Kelsey Hanley and Emma Woo kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with four aces apiece.

Fontbonne Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Notre Dame Academy, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Fontbonne Academy will square off against Dedham at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Notre Dame Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Braintree on the 10th.
