Lateral by junior Grant Paffrath leads to school’s first state title since 2009

Down 26-21 with four seconds to play, sophomore Blake Schultz, junior Grant Paffrath and senior Brycen Christensen of New London-Spicer (New London) completed a 48-yard hook-and-lateral touchdown to win the Minnesota Class 3A championship 27-26 on Saturday.

Taking the snap at the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (Glyndon) 48-yard line, Schultz threw the ball 30 yards through the air. The ball was corraled by Paffrath, who ran to the 14 before he was nearly dragged down by a defender. On his way down to the U.S. Bank Stadium turf, he lateraled the football to senior Brycen Christensen who raced 15 yards into the end zone for the winning touchdown on the final play of the game.

The touchdown completed a three-play, 24-second drive that concluded with Christensen's second scored of the game.

Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton nearly completed a miracle of its own. Trailing 21-20 in the game's final minute, senior running back Jordan Summers gave the Rebels a 26-21 lead when broke three tackles on third and 10 to score a 19-yard touchdown with 24 seconds to play in the game.
